Cinder Review

Thought you could never hear a new original version of Cinderella? Think again. Cinder by Marissa Meyer is a new twist on the classic fairy tale. Cinder is the first book in the Lunar Chronicles quartet. The world is not as you knew it, Earth has survived World War IV and has not been run the same for hundreds of years. There are no countries, only five commonwealths. Cinder takes place in the Eastern Commonwealth in New Beijing that is ruled by an Emperor and his son, Prince Kai. Cinder is a mechanic that is forced to work in her family’s marketplace stall to bring in income since Cinder’s family is only her stepmother and her two stepsisters, Pearl and Peony. Cinder is an orphan that was adopted five years ago by her stepmother’s dead husband. What is different about Cinder is that she is a cyborg that is only part human. In Cinder’s world, cyborgs are treated as second class citizens and are subject to prejudice. The moon is also now a country called Luna. Luna’s citizens is also subject to prejudice as well since Luna’s ruler is threatening war against Earth. Cinder is about to find out new information about herself that will shock her world and make her question who she really is.

I really enjoyed Cinder and read it in one sitting. I rate Cinder five stars because from the very beginning, it hooked me in and didn’t let me go until I had finished the entire almost 400 page book. There were a few predicable twists but there were also some things that happened that I did not see coming at all. The book did end on a cliffhanger which I hate but I will plan on picking up the next book in the series soon!

I’m Still Alive!

Yes I’m still alive! I completely forgot about this blog after a computer meltdown. Yes I know, bad blogger! But I plan on picking back up soon! I just wanted to throw a post out to my one or two readers, (yes I know you’re there, I see you) letting you that I am active again!

Something Real

Yesterday I read a new YA book called Something Real by Heather Demetrios

 Something Real

Something Real stars a reality TV show family with 13 kids. Trying to complete with the Duggars are we? Anyway Chloe Baker or Bonnie as she’s known on the show, has spent her entire life save four years behind the camera. Even her birth was filmed on national television! Excuse me but I think that is going a little too far, I mean who wants to have the entire country see you being born? Anyway, filming stopped when she was 13 years old and by the time Chloe is a senior in high school, she starts to think that her life might finally be normal. Until one day when the cameras reappear to her dismay. Will Chloe love her freedom to the point where she’ll do anything to fight back? Read Something Real to find out!

Seriously read this book! I haven’t seen this concept done before and with today’s reality shows starring kids, this is extremely relevant to what we might see in five or six years. Yes I’m talking to you, Gosselin kids. Fight back against the evil Kate! Even though this book is a little over 400 pages, it will fly by. I finished this book in a day and I was cheering for Chloe the entire time and you will too.

Freaky Friday!

The other night I was scrolling on Netflix trying to find a movie to watch when I came across this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freaky_Friday_(soundtrack)

Yes Freaky Friday with Lindsey Lohan before she went crazy!  Wait maybe this movie predicated Lohan’s craziness beforehand. Anyway, I loved this movie when it came out and it had been years since I watched it. I forgot how much I loved this movie! And I just now realized that Chad Michael Murray is in it as Jake:

Am I the only one that did not realize that this was Chad Michael Murray for years? Must be the hair… Anyway this was a nice trip down memory lane and not a bad way to spend an hour and a half. Of  course Jamie Lee Curtis carries most of the movie, I loved her impressions of teenage behavior, I think she did it beautifully especially in this scene:

No… you don’t want to see the actual cryptkeeper…. He’s so scary looking that I’m not going to post a picture. Just google image cryptkeeper.

Since I wrote this blog post, I am now inspired to give the Freaky Friday novel a reread and to finally see the original movie for the first time. Maybe for future blog posts? Talk to my one reader later and I’ll leave you with this video of Jamie Lee Curtis rocking a guitar. If you don’t want to see Lohan trying to play guitar, skip to 2:11.

Intro Post

Hey the one person who is actually reading this!

Basically I’m writing this blog for two purposes. I need something to do aka a project and I’m using this blog to have an outlet to be myself without worrying about anyone making fun of my awesomeness. So if you don’t like me, you can just click the back button right now. I’m new to blogging and right now a cat is blocking my computer screen so forgive me if I make a typo or something 🙂 More to come, I have a few ideas for a couple of posts. If anyone actually has read this, please comment!
